I'm Alive!
And back to blogging! In fact, I'm about to start another blog. I know, I know what you all are thinking: "She can't even update one blog, how is she going to update two?"
And my comeback? The other blog will be about TV. And we all know I am deeply committed to the sport of tv-watching. So this personal blog may fall by the wayside to my recapping of all things prime time.
As for what's going on in my life right now, I think a title change for this blog would be appropriate. Maybe "Text and Another City"? Or "Text and Which City"?
That's right, folks. I am no longer in NYC. I'm back in the District, living it up DC style. And let me tell you, DC style is way different from NYC style. I miss NYC like whoa, but due to various circumstances, I'm back in DC to try and figure out where it is that I'm happiest living.
So next year, I may be blogging to you from NYC again. Or I'll still be in DC. Or, who knows? Maybe I'll be recounting my fabulous life with Dhani Lennevald in Stockholm.
...Kay, Svenska style. Love it.
But until then, it's all about enjoying Obama's backyard. Because that's totally where I live.
...if Fairfax was the prez's backyard, that is. I'm living with Steph, one of my roommates from college in a lovely two-bedroom right off of the metro. I'm a 25-minute ride from my gig as an editorial assistant at DC Magazine in McPherson Sq, right in the heart of DC. I actually am uber-close to the White House from work. Michelle and I do lunch all the time. No lie.
It is amazing how much more you get for your money in NoVa, versus NYC. I'm paying the same amount for my current place that I did for my Wash Heights digs, but I have a washer and dryer in my apt, a dishwasher, my own bathroom, two closets, a fireplace, a porch, and access to a pool and a gym.
That being said, I rarely see celebrities (politicos don't count) and I miss the energy of Manhattan. But DC is a cool place all on its own, and I plan on taking full advantage of my time here to see if it can kick NYC's ass in the "Which City Should Kay Live In?" battle.
So tune in in about roughly a year for the answer to that question.
There may or may not be posts preceding that one. ;)
(That was a joke. I hope.)
Tune in soon for a link to my TV blog!

...Oh, Yeah.
I totally forgot I had a blog.
...I'm just kidding. But seriously, I might as well have at the rate that I post here. And I'm waaaaay too tired from work to write anything now, so this is pretty much a post to prove I am, in fact, alive, and might possibly update this thing soon.
Maybe.

You know how some people look forward to something all year? Welcome to that night for me.
I know it's only February, but it feels like we've had a bunch of big occasions this year already.
Well, no offense to Inauguration Day and Super Bowl Sunday, but the main event of 2009 is here...it's AA Day!
(No, we're not celebrating our sobriety, folks. Although if you are, then props to you, I suppose).
I'm talking about the Oscars, people.
And, on that note...Jai Ho! If Slumdog Millionaire doesn't sweep the awards, I will be severely upset. I'm watching Seacrest interview all the little kids who played the leads when they were young and they're ADORABLE. (Ryan is awkward, per usual, but he wouldn't be Ryan without the creepy innuendo and random interjections).
Supposedly Zac Efron is performing in some musical number onstage with people from Mamma Mia (like Veronia Mars alum Amanda Seyfried). Woo-hoo! She-who-must-not-be-named will be with Efron too, but we'll ignore that little detail. Ick.
Other winners I'm hoping for are Taraj P. Henson from Benjamin Buttons for Supporting Actress (even though Cruz is gonna take it apparently), Kate Winslet for Lead Actress (um, duh and IT'S ABOUT TIME) and Jai Ho for Best Song. Mostly because I'm hoping they'll re-enact the end credits from Slumdog for the performance.
As for non-Academy Award related news from this weekend, Friday night I went to see The Reader with Sydney. (Ok, I just realized this is actually Oscar related. Whoops). It was so good! I hadn't really thought about why the title of the movie was what it was, but the plot was really good. So yeah, go Kate!
Last night I went out to 1st Ave to meet up with Justin and some other Mary Wash kids for lots of alcohol and food. (Thanks for footing the bill, Choi!) Good times. It's always weird/cool to see college friends and find out people actually have lives post-graduation.
As for this week, I'm so flipping busy! Tomorrow is my EA dinner thing and I have two articles for the magazine due this week. Plus, on Thursday Lauren's coming up to visit. I'm taking off work Friday to hang with her, so we're planning on seeing a show Friday night and doing other fun city stuff. Magnolia Bakery and Alice's Tea Cup (if it's not on fire this time) are on my to-do list. Fingers crossed for no blizzards like last time Laur came up!
B. Walters special is about to come on, so I'm peacing out to catch that. I could pretend I'm tuning in for Anne Hathaway or Mickey Rourke (actual nominees), but that would be a lie. I wanna hear who the Jo Bros who are dating now.
Mock me if you must. But then go watch the live show and root for Slumdog!
(OMG. They're interviewing Rob Pattinson-I'm finishing this for real now).

AI = Death?
So does it make anyone else uneasy when Seacrest says "Stick around to see which contestants will be singing for their lives," on American Idol?
I always picture Randy, Simon, Paula and that new chick sacrificing some poor kid at an altar covered in pictures of Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson (who are, let's face it, the more successful winners...Ruben and Taylor who?) after a bad rendition of "Put Your Records On."
What a way to go.
...anyways.
I'm headed home for the weekend, but I'll be back with another (longer, less weird) post soon. Happy early Valentine's Day, loves! =)

All Aboard
So apparently, after they get off the boat, Jack and Kate DON'T live happily ever after. And the Unsinkable Molly Brown is kind of whiny and way less cool than she was onboard the ocean liner that doesn't fare so well on the high seas.
...yet, I still loved watching Titanic: Part 2!
(Call it Revolutionary Road if you want, but we all know it's really Jack & Rose: Reunited...and if feels so good).
I saw RR with Syd on Saturday and it was so great! I love that Leo looks pretty much exactly the same as he did when he was 20. It's so unfair that guys get better looking as they age, while chicks just get wrinkles. Or Botox.
That being said, Kate Winslet still looks great. I def have a girl crush on her.
But the best (worst) part of the movie wasn't even related to the film. These two old ladies sitting behind us talked during the WHOLE thing. And by "talked," I don't mean made comments, I mean had full-length conversations. It was ridiculous. Someone finally turned around and was like, "Can it, ladies!" and they still wouldn't shut up. Their comments were so inappropriate, too! At one point they said something about (mild spoiler alert) "Couldn't she have just used a coat hanger instead?" People were not amused.
Sydney and I just laughed it off because it was actually kind of funny, but for real. If they had talked over Leo one more time than they did...let's just say, it wouldn't be pretty.
Oh, who am I kidding? I couldn't take down two 65-year-olds no matter how much I'd like to pretend I could. I haven't done Tae-Bo in weeks.
In non-movie related news, I'm back to cooking again! I cooked a steak for the first time in my life today. It was awesome. And sad that I had to look up how to do so in a Betty Crocker cookbook. I have never before used the "broil" setting on an oven. Oops.
Aaaaand, I'm kind of in love with NYC a little bit. It took awhile, but I'm definitely there now. I was so homesick and so "fish-out-of-water" for so long that I didn't look at all the good stuff going on now. I live in a freaking exciting city, I'm making awesome friends and I'm actually an editor at a magazine about 5 years sooner than I thought I would be. Not horribly shabby.
Of course, there are some things I still want. A winning lottery ticket, for one. More hours in a day to catch up with my DVR (I have about a gazillion Top Model episodes from Oxygen's marathon on it). A washer and dryer in my apartment. Those purple Jimmy Choo's. A trip to Ireland.
You know. Little things.
One thing I do want that I am getting in the forseeable future is a trip to NoVa. I'll be spending Valentine's Day with my parent's (and not cheesy "Thumbs Up" dude), so ya'll should totally be jealous. And I get to see my old roomies for brunch and discuss Amy's wedding plans! Yay!
Very excited.
And with that, it's time for bed. I have to be at work in the morning. (It still feels weird to say/write that). Leave comments and/or come visit me! I'll be happy with either one, but of course I would prefer to see your pretty faces up here. ;)
